TrialCurve ("TrialCurve", "we", "us") is a research and evidence-synthesis service. It digitises published Kaplan–Meier figures and reconstructs pseudo individual patient data from them. It is operated from the United Kingdom by Patrick Evans, trading as TrialCurve, 68c Winchester Street, London SW1V 4NH, United Kingdom. Email: hello@trialcurve.com.

Terms of Service

1. Agreement

By creating an API key, calling the API or using the website demo, you agree to these terms. If you use TrialCurve on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you are authorised to bind it.

2. The service

TrialCurve takes an image of a survival figure and returns digitised curves, the numbers-at-risk table as read, reconstructed individual patient data (using the method of Guyot et al., 2012), derived statistics and a validation pack (checks against the statistics printed on the figure, provenance and an AI-use disclosure). The outputs are estimates derived from published aggregate data. They are not the original trial data.

3. Research use only; not a medical device

TrialCurve is intended for research, health technology assessment and evidence synthesis. It is not a medical device, and it must not be used to diagnose, treat or make decisions about individual patients.

4. Your responsibilities

You are responsible for verifying outputs before relying on them, including reviewing the quality grade, warnings, overlay and validation checks. You are also responsible for how you use the results in any analysis, publication or submission.
You must only upload images you are entitled to process. Uploads must not contain personal data about identifiable individuals.
You must keep your API keys confidential. You are responsible for all usage made with your keys until you rotate them.

5. Acceptable use

You must not:

use the service unlawfully;
attempt to probe, disrupt or overload it, or circumvent rate limits, authentication or billing;
reverse engineer the service except where the law allows;
resell raw API access without our written agreement;
upload malicious files, or content you have no right to use.

We may suspend access that breaches these terms or threatens the service.

6. Fees, billing and cancellation

Prices are shown on the pricing page. Payments are processed by Stripe.
Usage-based charges (credits beyond any included or free allowance) are billed monthly in arrears. The Team plan's base fee is billed monthly in advance.
Requests that return an error are not charged.
Prices exclude applicable taxes unless stated.
You can cancel at any time from the Stripe billing portal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and usage up to that point remains payable.
Except where the law requires otherwise, fees are non-refundable.

7. Availability and changes

We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. We may improve or change the engine. Every response records the engine version, so results can be traced. We will give reasonable notice of material changes to these terms or to prices.

8. No warranty

The service and its outputs are provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent permitted by law, we give no warranties of any kind, including accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. Published accuracy figures describe our benchmark and do not guarantee results on any particular figure.

9. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of profits, revenue, data or goodwill. Our total liability arising from or relating to the service in any 12-month period is limited to the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

10. Intellectual property

You keep all rights in what you upload. As between you and us, you own the outputs we return to you. We keep all rights in the service, the engine and the website.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, except where mandatory consumer law in your country provides otherwise.

What we process

Sub-processors: Vercel Inc. (hosting and compute), Anthropic PBC (vision model that reads the figures), Stripe Payments Europe / Stripe Inc. (payments and billing).
Figures you upload are processed in memory to produce the response and then discarded. We do not store images or results, and we never use your figures or outputs to train models. To read the figure (its curves, axis labels, table cells and printed statistics), the image is sent to our AI sub-processor, Anthropic PBC (Claude API). Anthropic does not train on API inputs or outputs and may retain them for a limited period for trust and safety purposes under its commercial terms.
Contact messages and academic applications. When you use the contact form or apply for academic access, we store your name, email address, organisation and message (or the details of your application) as a customer record with Stripe, so that we can reply and manage your access. Ask us via the contact form to delete it.
Account and billing data. Stripe processes payment details as an independent controller. We never see full card numbers. Stripe holds your name, email address and billing address, and a customer record including your key's identifier. Billing records contain only the count of credits used, not what you processed.
Website analytics. We count page views and a few anonymous events (such as a demo upload) with Vercel Web Analytics, which uses no cookies and does not identify you. Addresses are recorded without their query strings.
Operational logs contain request metadata such as timestamps, request IDs, endpoints, status and error codes, and processing times. Our hosting provider may also log IP addresses for security and rate limiting. Logs do not contain images.

Why we process it

To provide the service and take payment (performance of our contract with you). To keep the service secure and prevent abuse (our legitimate interests). To keep financial records (legal obligation).

Who we share it with

Only with the providers that run the service: Stripe for payments and billing, and our cloud hosting provider for compute and logs. Some of them may process data outside the UK. Where they do, transfers are covered by appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or Standard Contractual Clauses. We do not sell personal data.

How long we keep it

Uploaded images: not kept. Operational logs: up to 30 days. Billing records: as long as the law requires for tax and accounting, typically 6 years.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask to access, correct, delete or export your personal data. You can also object to or restrict certain processing. To make a request, contact us. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).

Cookies

The website does not use advertising or tracking cookies. Stripe's checkout and billing pages set their own cookies, which are needed for payment and fraud prevention.
